Tequila is Mexico’s best known and most representative drink in the wider world. It is a regional distilled beverage made from the blue agave plant, primarily found in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, 65 km (40 mi) northwest of Guadalajara, and in the highlands (Los Altos) of the central western Mexican state of Jalisco.

The purity of tequila, like Tequila EL ÁGUILA, relies on it being made 100% from the Blue Agave Tequilana Weber plant.

Cultivating and harvesting agave is a technique that requires years of experience. An agave plant reaches its perfect ripeness after between eight to twelve years of specialized and careful cultivation. Once the time has elapsed, the agave is ready to commence the process of transformation that gives birth to tequila.

When harvest time comes, the selection of the agave is of paramount importance. It’s carried out by experts that take into consideration the ripeness of the piña (the agave’s core), which is the heart of the agave.

Agave is the state of Jalisco’s main source of income. It’s used as the only basic raw material for the creation of tequila. Throughout Mexico, there are different varieties of agaves, the distinction is that tequila must use only blue agave plants rather than any type of agave.

ORIGIN DENOMINATION

Tequila is recognized as a Mexican designation of origin product worldwide, which means that it can only be produced in Mexico’s western region, close to the town of Tequila, Amatitlán, as well as in Arandas and Atotonilco el Alto in the area of Los Altos, and in the state of Nayarit, in municipalities like Ixtlán del Río. It is also made in specific zones in the states of Guanajuato, Michoacán and Tamaulipas.

Tequila EL ÁGUILA agave is cultivated in Jesús María, Jalisco, in the Los Altos region, State of Jalisco, where the combination of soil, weather and altitude generates the ideal agave for creating the unique and pure flavor of Tequila EL ÁGUILA. Blue agaves grown in the highlands of Los Altos region are larger in size and sweeter in aroma and taste.
